FREQUENTLY ASK QUESTIONS:

Q. I see only sqare boxes on your blog. How can I do to read your blog?
A. You should install Khmer Unicode to read text in Khmer. Please continue reading the next question.

Q. Is there any way to read your blog without installing Khmer Unicode, because I don’t know how to install Khmer Unicode anymore?
A. Yes, there are a few ways to read Khmer without installing Khmer Unicode. Just follow the instruction below:

  1. Download usp10.dll by clicking here and if you use Internet Explorer, just copy it to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ if you are using Firefox you can do a copy of usp10.dll to C:\Program Files\Firefox\.
  2. Download a font here and copy it to C:\Windows\Fonts\ by clicking on Start > Run > and type Fonts in the text box and click OK to go to C:\Windows\Fonts\ directory.
  3. Restart your browser and browse to http://khmerlyric.wordpress.com again.

Q. I can read Khmer now, but it has a space between word with Internet Explorer. How can I do?
A. Using Internet Explorer 6 or below should occures this problem with displaying Khmer. It’s because of the default font of the post. I will try to correct some old post to show Khmer correctly. But you can use Internet Exploer 7Mekhala or Firefox  instead of Internet Explorer 6 because they can display Khmer correctly.

Q. I want to write Khmer on a comment on your blog. But I don’t know how to type Khmer here.
A. To write Khmer on a comment or any where on your web browser you have to install Khmer Unicode keyboard first. After you install Khmer Unicode you can type Khmer by changing keyboard to Khmer (CA is the default keyboard of Khmer NiDA keyboard) and then enjoy!

    pom បាននិយាយ,

    hello
this is a wonderful blog… i’m trying to learn khmer these days~ ^^
I have set “ usp10.dll” and the font… but I got a problem with key in..
    ” សឺុ “ , I can’t make “ ុ” under “ សី” … T_T.. don’t know why…
I have set many font before I set up “ usp10.dll” … at that time,
    I can’t make “ ដ” amidst “ ឿ” … but “ ុ” under “ សី” looks fine…
now condition is inverse.. It’s weird…
    did I do something wrong?

  7. 9

    B.OEU.N បាននិយាយ,

    Thanks Pom.

Typing Khmer you have to write as ya spelling. For example, the word ស៊ី that you want to type you have to spell ស + ៊ + ី or ស៊ + ី = ស៊ី or if you want to write ដឿ you should type ដ first and follow with ឿ it should be ដ + ឿ = ដឿ.

    * Notice that one wovel is on one key. You should not try to combine the key to write a sound of wovel. For more information about key you can look at charactor keyboard on a pdf file on ya desktop. When you setup Khmer Unicode this file will automatically set on ya desktop.

    Hope this will help.

Thanks for trying to use Khmer.

    Good luck.
    Boeun

    it’s work! thank you Boeun!

I didn’t see any pdf show..
so I star over… download Khmer Unicode.. then pdf shows!
    Khmer Unicode is NiDA standard

I found my old keyboard is different (KHEK)
in the Keybind_.jpg says : for Apple Mac. keyboard, use Option key in place Ctrl+Alt keys.
    so I think maybe Khek could work with mac… I don’t know…
maybe ur friend upstairs would like to try…

    and what is “ wovel” mean? is that “ a group of khmer letters” ? or “ vowel” ? sorry.. I don’t know khmer at all^^;

    rak3k បាននិយាយ,

Hey Boeun, relate to the second FAQ, I don’t think just copy the correct usp10 file and fonts is enough. For Windows XP/2000, you have to think about complex script support, if the computer does not enable it, it won’t display/render Khmer correctly. However manually copy files to many places is not easy as download one file and install, but he he it a solution! That just my 2 cents! We all just want every Khmer to use unicode right?

  13. 15

    B.OEU.N បាននិយាយ,

That’s right! we want Cambodian uses Khmer Unicode than Legacy fonts. I get what you’ve said above. That’s is correct that we need to install complex scipt to display Khmer Unicode correctly (everywhere on your computer.) Differently, what I am mentioning here is making browser can read Khmer Unicode correctly (not everywhere). Just copy a font and a usp10.dll make your browser can read Khmer Unicode? Correct!!! The only one easy answer is this is Khmer Unicode lol. (Just a bit joke.) Just wanna tell you that I have tested so many many times with many computers and it works good even complex script is not installed on computers.

Complex script need for displaying East Asian language such as Thai… but also Khmer Unicode which has no pack along with Windows Xp or 2000. Complex cript will make your computer display Khmer correctly in Explorer windows (Menu, Taskbar, Message box, File name, etc.) But browser doesn’t need complex script to display unicode caracter. Don’t confuse with this.

I am supporting your idea. I am preparing to update this FAQ soon. Even you said it’s easy but I think it’s not easy for Cambodian who live in Cambodia. The internet speed here is damn slow. Some internet café we can’t even download font and usp10.dll (this is true.) So, it’s an easy way if they want to read Khmer on the web when they go to the internet café. Download a font and a usp10.dll and copy to the reqired directory it works!!!

    Thanks rak3k.

    Hope you get it,

    Boeun
